because of the, ya know, pandemic, we haven’t been able to create a ton of content yet this winter. so, we’re recycling from years past while bringing you current winter fashion picks.
Instead of just bringing you a post with some winter essentials, I thought we could make things interesting! Here are a few fun and funky ideas to make your outfits stand out this year.
Faux Fur Coat // I know we already shared our faux fur post of the season a few weeks ago, but Holiday content has a tendency to overshadow everything so we figured it is worth mentioning again! With outdoor gatherings increasing due to covid, outerwear is in the spotlight this year. A funky fur coat can spice up your winter looks while also keeping you cozy.
I started out this post just thinking about my favorite things from last year, but it turns out that my favorites were your favorites too! I don’t think that these will come as much of a surprise but it is nice to have everything here in one post!
Circular Mirror – The circular mirror from Target that we used in our Guest Bathroom remodel was by far our best seller of 2020. When I bought it, I didn’t realize Cath already had the exact same one, and once I posted about it on IG, I realized lots of people love this mirror. Its only $60 and comes in 4 colors – the best bang for your buck!
One thing is for sure: our love for faux fur has stood the test of time.
One of our very first blog posts here on The Crystal Press 6 years ago, featured Cath wearing a faux fur coat. Over the years, some of our favorite photos, seen in this post, were taken while wearing the winter fashion staple. From our twinning with the colorful Faux Fur from Tart Collections, to the Tart coats in the photo above, we always have a blast when it comes to faux fur (and twinning).{Note to self: time to schedule this year’s faux fur shoot}
The thing we love about a good faux fur coat is how they can take an outfit from zero to hero in the blink of an eye. Our holiday gatherings will look a little different this winter, and it is likely you will be outside for much of them. Our small family get togethers and socializing with friends will likely be cozied up in backyards and on porches and decks and you’ll need a warm coat that feels festive! It is safe to say you will be the life of the “party” if you don a gorgeous faux fur coat.
so obsessed with my new knit sets from Nasty Gal, which would make the perfect cozy holiday ‘fits
A few weeks I went on a bit of a buying spree on one of the LTK Days and boy I am glad I did! I ordered three different knit sets from Nasty Gal and they came just in time for our trip to The Homestead. I basically lived in these pieces the whole weekend – wearing them together and mixing and matching. I especially love the sweater of the off the shoulder set, so I wore that on repeat with each pair of pants daily. It was just so cozy!! I brought all kinds of other outfits, but couldn’t resist cozying up in these pieces each morning.
black dresses: the perfect start to a stand out look.
If you ask us, a black dress (or ten) is a staple in every girl’s wardrobe. Year round, casual, fancy, long, short, midi or maxi. A black dress is not only a classic, but also the great baseline for a look. You can dress them up, dress them down, and most importantly make them festive for any season!
Our holidays are looking a little different this year, but that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t get excited for getting dressed! When we asked you guys on instagram, you wanted to see holiday outfit ideas so here we are. The black dress is the perfect start for your holidays looks! You can accessorize with tights, jewelry, coats or a hat and create something extraordinary from an ordinary black dress! We have rounded up 20 options for you guys, ranging in price, length and style, providing options for you no matter your style preference.
Cath likes to throw on a hat to top off her looks, and I love to accessorize with a badass pair of boots and tights. Cath also wrote a post over on Cathclaire about how easy a black dress is for getting dressed when you’ve got an infant in the house. Anything to make picking out your outfit easier is a win in our book!
I have been sharing some of my favorite fall outfit ideas over on my personal blog, but this look is just too good not to share here too! (ICYMI here are the first two posts: Amazon Dress & Marc Fisher Boots // Spanx, Sweater, Boots) I have to admit, I was wary about the paper bag faux leather shorts trend but decided to give it a shot. When I saw that J.ING had a pair, I knew I had to try them and create a fun look around the trendy piece.
*the shorts pictured are now sold out but here are similar styles*
You guys know I’m a big fan of J.ING ever since I started working with them last year and trust them for my elevated basics. All of their pieces feel like luxury items without the designer prices and you gotta appreciate that. I have to say that I was pleasantly surprised when I tried the shorts on with my latest J.ING blouse. I felt a little funny at first, tbh, but I loved how they looked. I wanted to show off the top of the shorts so I decided to wear the blouse unbuttoned and a favorite tank top. To make the outfit even more interesting, I paired the J.ING pieces with these croc inspired Nine West boots to give the look some dimension. (more…)
I thought I had grown out of my complete and utter obsession with being Jessica Simpson until this outfit – shot with Halle Kennon for The Crystal Press w Reb – with Free City sweatpants from SHOPBOP happened.
Since the debut of the MTV show Newlyweds in 2003 – like most of America – I have been a Jessica Simpson fan. I remember scanning outlets (the internet, tabloids, magazines) for every detail of her outfits on and off camera and was heavily influenced by her style. I thought I had grown out of it since the obsession began 17 years ago – but then this outfit happened.

Transition to fall by adding a pair of Doc Marten boots to your next outfit. These boots add the perfect fall vibe to any outfit, even ones from your summer wardrobe.
Last weekend, I had a very relaxing weekend on the Rappahannock river. I don’t know about you, but I have a special place in my heart for rainy and overcast days on any body of water. Being on the water is always relaxing, but switching sunny days up with some gloomy weather takes it up to the next level for me. As you can see in these outfit photos, the weather was especially overcast and the temperature wasn’t quite cool enough to wear a full on fall fashion ‘fit.
Whenever the temperatures are not quite cool enough for a full fall outfit, I love to pair boots with jean shorts. In fact, I am a sucker for a good pair of jean shorts all year roundand invest in a new pair yearly that I wear way too much. It’s snowing outside? Great, I’ll wear my jean shorts with tights. You get the picture.
This year, I snagged a high waisted pair ofOne Teaspoon banditsand they have been my outfit BFF for months!
Back to the boots – these blacked out, vegan leather Doc Martenboots knocked this outfit out of the park and paired with a duster sweater, gave the perfect element of fall to an otherwise summery outfit. I usually steer away from flat boots in general but these puppies have changed my mind! I am still amazed by how these Doc Martens elongate my legs .
I know with this being my third post including an Artipoppe baby carrier, my obsession is pretty obvious. If you are in love with Artipoppe baby carriers as much as I am, grab $55 bucks off you own with this link. PS – They make great baby shower gifts as well!
