I love sharing all of my quirky, fun, dressed up, and staged looks for you guys on here and over on my own site.  It gives me a space to be creative with my outfits and show y’all all sorts of fun possibilities.  However, I noticed that I shy away from sharing things that I actually wear on a daily basis.  Sure I’ve shared plenty of my favorite sweaters, jeans and other classic staples with you but this is different! If you follow me on IG or tiktok, you’ve probably seen a slew of my everyday looks and I think that this one is the most everyday of them all.

Mom Jeans for Any Season

I have had the hardest time finding a pair of mom jeans that not only fit me, but are flattering on me. I swear it is just as hard as finding the perfect shade of blonde for your skin tone! (see my post on where to get your blonde hair done in Richmond on The Crystal Press here.) I have short legs and curves so mom jeans have been a trend I have been TRYING to make happen for cathclaire + the crystal press fam but failing miserably. They either make my legs look stumpy or my hips look too large etc etc. The other day I found a pair from ASOS and I decided to give them jeans a try. My trick for ordering online in a time crunch? Order two clothing sizes that you think you are closest to. I ordered the 27 and 28 in these jeans and ended up going with the 27. Did I mention that I love them?

I know the vintage style mom jeans are traditionally a thick, truer denim but these have a little bit more give in them that I appreciate. You know, a little stretch. These ASOS jeans are more comfortable for me to wear than a truer denim and if I am being completely honest, I’d even wear them on a plane. And I hate wearing jeans on planes. Like, loathe.

I have been enjoying styling these mom jeans in different ways! Stay tuned for these blues to show up more in outfits here on The Crystal Press. What are your favorite mom jeans and why? Black and White Striped Dresses for Summer

the crystal press fashion blog Ever since planning my wedding last year (see the wedding photos here), it is as if stripes have taken over my life. From decorating our home with stripes (a big carpet, accent pillows, you name it) to wearing them every chance I get here on The Crystal Press, I have stripe fever and this Revolve House of Harlow dress is no exception. I love a summer dress that is breathable with lots of movement for those extra hot days that getting dressed is unfathomable. Throw on a pair of statement earrings and your favorite hat (okay, maybe the hat thing is just me..) and you have an outfit in no-time. Whether you are packing for a summer vacation or brunching in Richmond with friends – summer dresses are stylish and getting ready time-savers to get you out the door sooner rather than later 🙂

A Red Hat OOTD

Looking for a way to style your favorite hat? A blogpost on how to style a red hat is on The Crystal Press for you hat lovers!

If it seems like I have had a hat attached to my head since last summer, it is because I have. Ever since my fateful trip to Las Vegas, it is as if I can’t leave the house without a hat on or without a hat in hand “just-in-case.” If I am being completely honest, there is one black French Connection Hat that I have been wearing NONSTOP and I’m sure you guys have noticed. My husband is constantly scoffing at it, telling me that I need to take a lint roller to it – just about every time I wear it. I DO CLEAN IT but I wear it so often, that it is almost impossible to keep it lint-free no matter what I do.

Comfortable Outfit for a Four Seasons Miami Getaway

Craving a quick and easy beach getaway from Richmond, Va that won’t involve a long flight? Look no further than the Four Seasons Miami. A quick flight to Fort Lauderdale and an uber ride will get you there in no time from Richmond!

If you saw my Instagram post on cathclaire the other day, you know that I had a serious Rebecca Bloomwood (from the Shopaholic series) moment the other day with these black and white plisse culottes. I put yet another pair of these pants from ASOS into my online shopping cart, not because the pair I already own were ruined, but because I miss them when they are getting cleaned! If that isn’t an indication of how much I love or how I wear these, then I don’t know what is.

I love these culottes and I have rocked them with nearly everything in my closet. From sweaters and adidas sneakers (see the blogpost here) to this cropped black top and Jeffrey Campbell heels, the options are truly endless with these black and white beauties! I loved that I could repurpose them for this birthday trip to Miami with my hubby. I wore this outfit on our second night there to the Miami Heat playoff game. I am in no way sporty spice but MAN did I have a great time at this basketball game. I have decided that it is my favorite live sport to watch.

If you are looking for a quick beach trip to take, I highly recommend traveling to Miami for a long weekend. I know I don’t have to tell you which hotel I recommend because you already know 🙂

A Love Affair with A Tommy Jeans Jacket

It was true love at first sight when I was perusing ASOS, looking for the perfect denim jacket. I immediately added it to my cart, without even looking at the price. Then, I cringed a little when I saw it was ~$200, then realized it was Tommy and thought, well it’s probably going to be worth it. So I ordered it and decided to take it for a little spin and see if I just couldn’t live without it.

Velvet Turtleneck on Repeat

This velvet turtleneck has been getting a lot of play lately.

reb velvet turtleneckIf you follow me on my personal instagram, you’ve seen this velvet turtleneck twice already and if you watch my stories, you’ve seen it even more! When I was trying to decide what look to share on here next, I thought maybe this piece had been played out so I was a little skeptical. But then, I saw that it is now on sale for $30 and still available in most sizes, so that decision was made! I originally bought this to wear on New Years Eve / my 30th Birthday party but had a change of plans when I got the Laundry ombre sequins dress I had been pining over for months for Christmas.  The planning part of my brain was thrown for a little bit of a loop, but I recovered pretty quickly.

Anyways, I digress.

Striped Sweater Weather + The Golden Rule

Who doesn’t love a bold striped sweater just in time for the 1st day of winter? (aka sweater weather?)

striped sweater fashion blog

Well friends, I’m just 5 days from my 30th birthday and walking into it with an AWESOME attitude.  And by awesome, my new motto is “if I want to wear the same striped sweater 4 days in a row, then I will.”  And that is exactly what I did after I got this striped sweater/gem from ASOS in the mail. It went a little like this : Step 1: open package. Step 2: Try on striped Sweater Step 3: Wear it the rest of the day. Step 4: Wear it to Girl’s Christmas at The Jefferson with the ruffled Zara Pants Step 5: Wear it Saturday while bopping around to breweries and taking these photos with Cath. Step 6: Wear it on a lazy Sunday to do Crosswords, eat at Joe’s Inn and go see Star Wars: The Last Jedi.  (more…)

Holiday Packing Tips with The Crystal Press

Whether you need packing tips for your holiday travels or are planning holiday fashion outfits for your Christmas weekend, The Crystal Press has you covered with ideas to make the most out of your wardrobe this holiday!

packing tips fashion blog

We are less than a week away from Christmas. What the!

Yes, I have been watching Christmas movies basically every night since Thanksgiving (which I’m sure you guys have seen on my cathclaire instastory nonstop), but being so festive this year REALLY made time fly by super fast. Does anyone else feel this way?

This is the first time since college that I am traveling for Christmas AND it’s my first Christmas with Kevin as husband and wife! **If you are new here, Kev and I just got married 6 months ago – you can see more about the cathclaire wedding here!**  I am so excited to pack (this is DEF a first….)  and share packing tips for a getaway this holiday season with family!

    1. Plan Ahead: This may sound like a no-brainer when it comes to packing tips, but if you ask me, it’s even more important when packing for the holidays. Not only are you traveling with gifts so the extra space is key, but you are also probably traveling to spend time with family or friends. If you plan ahead and get clear about what you may need while on your trip, you will avoid forgetting an essential item and wasting precious time scrambling to get an outfit together or for something you need vs enjoying time carefree with your people!
    2. Maximize Space in Your Suitcase: Towing gifts to your destination can take up a lot of space when packing, especially if you are flying. One of our favorite packing tips we just learned? To make the most room in your suitcase, roll your clothing. Not only does this maximize space but it also creates much less wrinkles. Doesn’t that sound amazing?
    3. Pick a Neutral Color Outfit Base: The Crystal Press is a huge fan of packing a neutral outfit base (think black, white, camel, navy), whether we are traveling to fashion week or home for the holidays. Packing with one main color in mind allows you to interchange pieces throughout your travels for different events without overstuffing your suitcase. Getting off the plane to meet friends for a fancy welcome dinner? Throw a blazer over your airplane get-up and trade out your flats for heels.  My go-to neutral base for this trip (and pretty much always) is black. I am going to be packing everything in this outfit post for my holiday travels – these leather culottes from ASOS are the most versatile piece I own right now and not to mention super comfy. I love how they pair with this old skool Vans and also can be dressed up with black heels for a night out or church with the family
    4. Keep Essential Items In Your Carry-On: If you are like me and can’t seem to travel without checking a bag – be sure to use this packing tip when traveling! Holiday travel can get crazy because it is such a popular time to jet-set so be prepared. Nothing is worse than getting to your destination without your necessities and essential items and especially during such a special time like the holidays!
    5. Find Your Favorite Luggage / Suitcase Brand: This is something Rebecca and I have been shopping alot for with all of the traveling we have been doing the past few years. Here are a few of our favorite suitcase and luggage brands we are shopping right now!

packing tips travel blog the crystal press

For all of you that are going away this holiday, I wanted to share my packing list / packing tips and how I maximize the room in my suitcase without sacrificing fun fashion-forward pieces. I am packing a lot of black for my holiday getaway to Kansas City, following the neutral base packing tips listed above. Having one neutral color as a theme for the base of your outfits while traveling is a great way to mix and match pieces, as well as easy to layer.  I am packing these leather culottes pictured in this outfit post that I scored on Black Friday from ASOS, a couple of casual black sweaters and t-shirts, my black Jeffrey Campbell boots, and 2 coats. I love having all black as the base for traveling because it prevents me from overpacking (usually things I won’t wear anyways. Ask Rebecca, I am an insane overpacker….this post is as much for me as it is you guys lol) aka maximizes the room in my suitcase for statement coats and accessories….and gifts! I am going to pack my green star faux fur and my big red coat that makes me look like Mrs. Clause. You didn’t think I was going to pack all black and hide my festiveness this year, did you? (more…)

The Perfect Winter Knit with Banana Republic

I don’t know about you guys, but here in Richmond, VA it seems like we completely skipped over fall.  All of a sudden my back porch is covered in leaves and I didn’t even notice them changing! I swear, it happened over night. I feel like a broken record and I say this every year, but alas, its true.  Luckily, I am fully prepared thanks to Banana Republic!!  (more…)
