Our Outer Banks Photo Journal

Late summer getaway in Corolla, NC

outer banks the crystal press

Catherine has been taking full advantage of her summer at her family’s beach house in the Outer Banks and to say I have been jealous of all of her weekends away is an understatement! Phoenix is growing into the cutest little beach babe and I was so thrilled to be able to spend a weekend at the beach with these two.

Our September trips in the past meant New York Fashion Week, events, shows, photo shoots and either air or train travel. Sure, we miss the energy of the city, but I think I speak for both of us when I say that our lives have changed for the better since the arrival of Phoenix and Catherine’s motherhood adventure. Let’s be clear, we still know how to have fun!! Beach days, bare feet and beer gardens made for a much needed girls weekend away.

Getaway Shenandoah : Relax, Recharge at Getaway House

Escape the city safely, to relax and recharge at Getaway House

getaway house

John and I went to Getaway House for the first time last summer, right when he got out of school.  It was the perfect way to kick off the summer.  This year, we decided to go right before he goes “back to school” even though that will look different this year. We have both been working our butts off for the past month and the Getaway was MUCH needed.

Back in June when we were reminiscing about our 2019 visit, I thought this would be the perfect chance to escape the city and have a mini vacation during the pandemic, as long as they were up and running and using safe protocols. Sure enough, Getaway has adapted to the times and is using extra safety precautions when preparing for its guests.  Naturally, the entire experience is socially distant, with the cabins situated apart from each other and if you don’t want to see anyone else during your trip, you definitely do not have to. Quarantine Projects: Reb’s Guest Bathroom Remodel

bathroom remodel

We all took on quarantine projects right? What started as “we need a new light fixture” turned into, let’s remodel the whole bathroom. I am by no means a professional and this was very DIY, so proceed with caution 🙂

We had to have some electrical work done in our downstairs bathroom (the guest bath / main bathroom on the first floor), and when the electrician was fixing the fixtures, he asked if we planned on painting the bathroom anytime soon. A light bulb went off in my head. Well, no, we weren’t but now we are!! I looked at the bathroom with new eyes and had never really noticed that the walls were a super pale peach and the cabinets a horrible brown. SO, a few weekends later I started on my project. Let’s just say it took a lot longer than expected to remodel the whole bathroom.

Reb’s 5 Year Anniversary Photos

this post first appeared on sartorial meanderings on july 25, 2020.

Okay, so I couldn’t resist a sneak peek at our photos on IG and in this post on my personal blog – featuring the wrap dress, BUT HERE ARE EVEN MORE!

We shot these photos with the lovely Halle Kennon a few weeks ago, and I have been dying to share them ever since. If you have read the past few posts, you know I ordered three dresses from Rent The Runway and couldn’t decide which one to wear, so I wore all three! {More about Rent the Runway and Why I am Loving it, in this post, as well.}  From the dresses, to the location, to the shots that Halle captured, this shoot turned out exactly as I had imagined it! Considering that all of my photos for TCP & RP are usually all black, simple and minimal, I wanted to try something different for this shoot and I am SO glad I did.

I don’t have much more rambling to do, as the photos speak for themselves but just one quick suggestion. If you have an upcoming couples shoot, I recommend checking out pinterest beforehand for inspo (pin this post for later!) because the photos where we used some inspiration that Halle found turned out much better than John and I just wandering around in the field! Sometimes a little direction goes a long way. Don’t get me wrong, we did capture some great photos at the beginning, but it helps to change up the posing to get a little variety.

Honest Review: Summersalt One Piece

edit * this suit is now sold out, but from what I understand all suits fit pretty similar, so the review still stands.

summersalt one piece the crystal press

Over the past year or so, my body has been changing. I have gained weight in places I never had weight before and it has been a difficult thing to get used to. My new body. At the beginning of the summer I absolutely dreaded having to get into a bathing suit, and if you told me I would be posting a blog post in a bathing suit, I would have told you to kindly stfu.

Elevate Your Wardrobe with Rent The Runway

rent the runway the crystal press

Last summer, I loved working with Rent the Runway, trading out dreamy dresses for my wardrobe for our travels! From Getaway House to Miami, I loved being able to pick out new pieces for the new places we were going. It was so nice to have lovely designer pieces without the designer price tag and if you are like me wear-one-time-then-hang-in-your-closet. But, I paused my subscription when fall came around as I didn’t need it as much. I definitely wouldn’t have thought that I wanted it during corona times, but I was wrong!

After all, who wouldn’t want to play dress up in your backyard, or wear new pieces to create new memories. John and I are celebrating our 5th anniversary on July 25th, and I knew I wanted to do a dreamy photo shoot and I have nothing that was inspiring me. SO, I was thrilled when Rent the Runway reached out about their latest promotion!

Right now you can use REBECCAPERK40 for ~$95 off their 2 Swap subscription. This comes out to two months for $89!

3 Tips To Decorating Your Space with Desenio

desenio office decor the crystal press

The week before quarantine began, I moved into a new office space for my “regular” job! I was so excited to decorate the space, but that got put on the back burner while we all worked at home for a couple of months. I got to perfect my home office space, but was thrilled to get back into work to bring my new space to life!

I was thrilled that Desenio wanted to collaborate to help me decorate my new office, but they have SO many prints to choose from I was overwhelmed at first. I realized these 3 tips during this process and wanted to share, in case any of you need help decorating a new space!

Anniversary at Four Seasons at the Surf Club

Catherine shared her baby moon at our favorite Four Seasons property with you guys already, but here’s a photo diary from our trip last year! Day dreaming of this hotel on the daily and can’t wait for us to go back together.

FOUR SEASONS SURF CLUB

John and I are coming up on our five year anniversary, which took me down memory lane to our anniversary last year.

Catherine and I had planned to go to Miami Swim Week and then stay a night at Four Seasons at The Surf Club, just north in Surfside, BUT! she found out she was pregnant the week before the trip. { *It was SO hard to keep this secret when everyone was asking why she wasn’t going with me anymore!* }  So, I asked John if he wanted to go with me instead. Surprisingly, it took a little bit of convincing, but once I suggested celebrating our anniversary a few weeks early, and reminded him *AHEM* Four Seasons, he was on board!  After our few days down in South Beach (See our Miami photo diary here), we caught an uber with a seriously charasmatic ex-tennis coach and checked into Four Seasons at The Surf Club.

Reb’s Picks: Black Dresses for Summer

black dress rebecca piersol

Photos by Halle Kennon

Black dresses on here, to me, the queen of only wearing black, are not ground breaking.

BUT! With each new season, and each new collection that comes out, I have to keep you guys updated on my current faves.  This strapless number I found on ASOS a few weeks ago sold out SO FAST, but I have found plenty of great options out there on Shopbop, Nordstrom, Urban Outfitters, J.ING & H&M. From slinky LBDs to flowy maxis and midis in between, I have found 20 great options for you guys. (more…)

Anine Bing Tees + Sweats : The Perfect Fall Combo

graphic tee and sweats

Photos by Halle Kennon

When we were preparing for our first post lock down shoot with Halle, I ordered a few new pieces of clothing, with new outfits in mind. HOWEVER, I also knew that I wanted to capture this Anine Bing tee that has been on repeat over the past few months.  When I saw these joggers, I knew they would create the perfect look. And by the perfect look I mean, a mix between #quarantine lounge wear and street style.  Something I am actually wearing regularly. Usually, when I have these grand ideas for outfits, especially for photo shoots with Catherine, I order the pieces and the outfit doesn’t turn out exactly how I envisioned it.  THIS TIME THOUGH: it actually worked. The addition of the boots dresses up the look, but if you are working at home, slippers would totally work too.

I was so happy with the way this look turned out and even though it was a little hot for sweatpants outside when we shot these photos, the days are getting cooler, plus most of us are working inside (at home or safely back to work).  If you follow along with me on IG, you know that I have been a huge fan of Anine Bing tees for a while now. Ever since Catherine put me onto them last summer, they are a staple in my closet.  At $99, you are paying a little more for a graphic tee, but I have to say they are 100% worth it.  They are SO SOFT and you get designer quality without having to spend $400. I find myself reaching for one or the other of the ones I own oh so frequently.
