lately, i have been struggling a little bit with outfits and outfit posts. we still don’t have the chance to properly get dressed everyday and spending money on new clothes sometimes feels insane. i’ve been searching for inspo to bring to the blog and when i saw the green rooftop empty pool at common house my creative juices started flowing, and here’s the result.

Neutral Sweater Dresses To Transition to Spring

everyone should have a neutral sweater dress in their closet

I was making a reel over on my personal instagram account as part of a style share with some ladies (hi Laura Leigh!) && thought I might as well revisit this dress and link up some new favorites! If you keep scrolling, you’ll find this same dress in photos from 2 years ago (blonde hair!), which goes to show, that this and a few other neutral dresses are truly a staple in my closet. Just so cozy and if you stick with neutral colors they are perfect for any occasion.

Style Inspiration for Layered Looks

photos: Halle Kennon, Wild Heart Creative

It’s been a hot minute since we had an outfit or styling post on here! It has been a bit harder to keep up with this kind of content, not only during quarantine but also as we are both juggling hectic schedules, trying to arrange photos with photographers, babysitters etc! BUT HERE WE ARE! WE DID IT!

Once again, we ended up not necessarily “twinning” but wearing outfits that could both fit with the same theme : keeping outfits interesting using layers! I chose to give the sweater vest another go, and Catherine layered this hanky panky turtleneck not only with her Gucci tee, but with a sequin duster on top.

If you are like us, you have been living in boring loungewear, sweat suits and pajamas for almost a year now, so when you have the chance to get dressed you want to make things interesting!

I have been playing around with the layered sweater vest (or knit tank) look for a little while now, and while it isn’t always the most flattering thing on my body at all times, I think it looks cool 🙂 It adds dimension to an otherwise boring look. And I don’t mean basic, because you know I love using simple basic pieces to create an interesting look. AKA, A shirt dress + sweater vest = combined textures party.

Cath knows how to really jazz up a look, we know that! She pulled the double layering with the lace turtleneck and sequin duster for these photos and I loved both. I loooove the way the sequin duster looks especially IRL, but the lace turtleneck really made this look IMO! Also, who knew that Hanky Panky made turtlenecks? They are of course sold out everywhere (we still could find the body suit), but we have rounded up some other ideas for layering your looks as we transition from winter into spring!

Think bodysuits, dusters, long cardigans and fun textures.

The Lodge at Whitefish Lake

The best place to stay in Whitefish, Montana and for those visiting Glacier National Park : The Lodge At Whitefish Lake

lodge at whitefish lake

This post is soooo belated and I am so mad at myself for waiting so long! But here it is.

John and I took a spontaneous trip (planned just 3 weeks ahead) to Montana in October and it was one of the best decisions we ever made! I polled my IG audience about suggestions for travel out west and someone suggested Whitefish and specifically the Lodge At Whitefish Lake.  After one glance at their instagram, and after finding out they were a mere 30 minute drive from Glacier National Park, we were sold. It was definitely the non-busy season, in between the gorgeous Montana summer and ski season in the winter, so we got great rates on the rooms, and also felt super safe as it wasn’t so crowded.

The Lodge is located just a few miles out of Downtown Whitefish and it’s lake front property offers absolutely breath-taking views.  We stayed in a lakeview junior suite in the main lodge, and definitely would make sure we are lake front next time, but it was cozy and spacious nonetheless! But in my opinion, I think the extra cost for lake front would be worth it. Each room has its own gas fireplace which is an absolute dream. I basically had ours on whenever we were in the room!

Reb’s Favorite 2020 Purchases & Best Sellers

I started out this post just thinking about my favorite things from last year, but it turns out that my favorites were your favorites too! I don’t think that these will come as much of a surprise but it is nice to have everything here in one post!

Circular Mirror – The circular mirror from Target that we used in our Guest Bathroom remodel was by far our best seller of 2020. When I bought it, I didn’t realize Cath already had the exact same one, and once I posted about it on IG, I realized lots of people love this mirror. Its only $60 and comes in 4 colors – the best bang for your buck!

Cozy Holiday Option: Knit Sweater Sets from Nasty Gal

so obsessed with my new knit sets from Nasty Gal, which would make the perfect cozy holiday ‘fits

the crystal press nasty gal knit set

A few weeks I went on a bit of a buying spree on one of the LTK Days and boy I am glad I did! I ordered three different knit sets from Nasty Gal and they came just in time for our trip to The Homestead. I basically lived in these pieces the whole weekend – wearing them together and mixing and matching. I especially love the sweater of the off the shoulder set, so I wore that on repeat with each pair of pants daily. It was just so cozy!! I brought all kinds of other outfits, but couldn’t resist cozying up in these pieces each morning.

How To Style Faux Leather Shorts

I have been sharing some of my favorite fall outfit ideas over on my personal blog, but this look is just too good not to share here too! (ICYMI here are the first two  posts: Amazon Dress & Marc Fisher Boots // Spanx, Sweater, Boots) I have to admit, I was wary about the paper bag faux leather shorts trend but decided to give it a shot. When I saw that J.ING had a pair, I knew I had to try them and create a fun look around the trendy piece.

*the shorts pictured are now sold out but here are similar styles*

You guys know I’m a big fan of J.ING ever since I started working with them last year and trust them for my elevated basics. All of their pieces feel like luxury items without the designer prices and you gotta appreciate that.  I have to say that I was pleasantly surprised when I tried the shorts on with my latest J.ING blouse. I felt a little funny at first, tbh, but I loved how they looked. I wanted to show off the top of the shorts so I decided to wear the blouse unbuttoned and a favorite tank top. To make the outfit even more interesting, I paired the J.ING pieces with these croc inspired Nine West boots to give the look some dimension. (more…)

Marc Fisher Friends & Family Sale

the crystal press marc fisher friends and family

You guys know we love Marc Fisher around here and they are currently running their Friends & Family Sale which means 25% off everything! This is a great time to stock up on a new pair of booties for the season. Their boots are honestly my favorite affordable pair on the market and I own at least 5. HIGHLY recommend if you are in the market for a new pair of everyday boots.
