Twinning in Tart Faux Fur Coats.. Again!

A few years ago, Tart Collections sent us these fabulous faux fur coats, and to this day they are something we get the most compliments on! It also started off our inclination towards twinning, which we have enjoyed on and off over the past few years.  So when they reached out again this winter to collaborate, we jumped at the opportunity to spruce up our faux fur collection.  We loveeee this Zoey Coat and have been wearing it basically non-stop since they landed on our door step.

It’s no surprise that for this Sundayyyy jaunt in Scott’s Addition, we both showed up wearing our favorite cropped pants + current favorite shoes.  We tend to end up coordinating more often than not, without planning ahead.  I guess you could say we are on the same frequency 🙂 In any case, we’ll choose faux fur over anything, any day during the chilly winter months! There’s also something so very festive about them and we love how versatile this particular style is.

What’s your favorite outerwear trend?

PS. Richmond friends, have you been to the new-ish Don’t Look Back in Scott’s Addition? We love the ode to the old Triple Pool Hall, and of course the margaritas!

Winter Essentials: Oversized Sweaters + Black Boots

Ever since the temperatures dropped, I have basically been living in my newly coined “winter uniform.”  Well, actually, I have been wearing this oversized knit from boohoo throughout the fall and only when it got to be cool enough did I start to pair it with my fave trusty leggings + new boots from Marc Fisher! Each time I go to create a blog post about closet essentials, I don’t even mean to round up only black items, but alas it tends to happen quite frequently! It’s not that I don’t enjoy wearing colors and patterns, but when it comes to the basics, I find black is simply easiest.  Every girl should have at least one oversized black sweater and pair of black boots in their closet and I have found that every couple years my collection needs a bit of an overhaul. We Want Your Input this Holiday Season!

FRIENDS! Can you believe its already November? YES, very cliche I know, but seriously? Where does the time go?

So, with the holidays upon us, we want to hear from you! What kind of posts do you guys want to see on here over the next two months? Gift guides? Holiday party dress roundups?

As much as we love to use this platform as an outlet for ourselves, we also want it to be a place that you go to when you need inspiration and ideas. So naturally, we want to write about the things you want to read about.  It would mean a great deal to us if you drop a note in the comments section and give us a little feedback about what you want to see here so we can make that happen.

We are also working on getting together a holiday giveaway series.  Two years ago, we did our 12 days of giveaways here on TCP and it was a huge hit and so much fun!  If you have any ideas, suggestions or donations you’d like to add to become a part of this, we would love to hear from you too! If you feel more comfortable sending us an email, feel free to do that too: thecrystalpress@gmail.com <3

My Go-To Shoes For Fall: White Combat Boots

Well, friends, I’m going to be perfectly honest with you. I wrote out this whole post about how I splurged major on these combat boots and how they were worth the price tag.  After writing the whole post, I clicked on the link, only to find they are sold out of most sizes AND they’re on sale. SO! If you wear a 6.5, 7.5 or 8.5, hurry on up and grab these for $115.

Luckily, a bunch of brands are showing this trend this fall so there are plenty of other pairs out there – almost identical in fact.  SO instead of me rambling on and trying to convince myself that I spent my hard earned cash on this pair of boots and it was totally worth it – I’ll leave you with a round-up of a few other pairs and two of my favorite looks to date.

3 Ways to Wear Red This Fall

We have clearly been having an ongoing love affair with red for quite some time. I posted about red dresses for summer a couple of months ago, Catherine wrote about shopping affordable red pieces back in March and if you follow along with us on instagram, red has been the pop of color per choice for quite some time now!

In the name of authenticity, we are still wearing red, so we are going to keep posting about red.  Everyone else may be writing about “sweaters for fall!” and “best trenches for the season” — and we will of course be doing that eventually, but for now our natural instinct is to post about whats relevant to us atm. How many times did I said red in this post? Let’s see, 5 already and there’s no end in sight. Read on for how to wear the red trend three ways as we transition into fall.

Wishlist Wednesday: Nasty Gal 50% Off EVERYTHING Picks

Earlier in the summer, I worked on a collaboration with Nasty Gal and scored these fabulous booties + button down pictured here as well as this pair of rad denim. Unfortunately, the booties and top have since sold out, but the good news for you guys is that Nasty Gal is currently doing 50% off EVERYTHING on their site.  Yes, EVERYTHING. *Use code GIMME50*

We’ve only got a few weeks left of summer, so it’s time to start thinking about transition pieces and layering.  We’ve rounded up some of our favorite clothing items, as well as accessories for you guys. These prices are NO JOKE, so do yourself a favor and treat yourself to some staples that can carry you through the fall.

I just ordered these sneaks, and I’m pretttttttty excited.

PS.  I reallyyyy wanted to post these photos on here, even though the outfit was sold out, because they capture two of my favorite places at the Homestead. We had our pre-reception cocktail party in the marble hall and it was perfection!! The black and white floor nook is where John and his groomsmen stood before the ceremony, watching all of our guests arrive.  You know I can’t miss out on a sappy moment to talk about our wedding day, so there we have it folks!

What We’re Wearing to Taylor Swift Reputation Tour

THE WEEK HAS FINALLY COME! Ever since we missed out on the 1989 Tour, we vowed that we wouldn’t miss Taylor Swift’s next tour.  Luckily, my sister helped us snag some tickets during the Pre-Sale and we will be Atlanta Bound this weekend to see the Reputation Stadium Tour.  To say that we are excited is an understatement.

For weeks, we have been talking about what we are going to wear.   Do we do the twinning thing? Do we recreate the two album magazine tour looks? Do we just wear Taylor gear? This has been a serious back and forth.  Finally, last week, we decided to do a little bit of all of it.  Catherine found this ‘Gorgeous’ tee on ASOS, and I purchased the sweatshirt from her Merch shop and created a look that is an ode to her Gucci Sweatshirt / OTK Boots look from the Look What You Made Me Do video.  Cath added the sequin skirt as the perfect statement piece to top off her look.

Who else has caught the Reputation Stadium Tour this summer? No spoilers – but – how was it!? Anyone going to be at the show in Atlanta this weekend? Drop a note in the comments!

Jumpsuits : The Easy Summer Outfit

If you follow us on Instagram, you saw that when I first got this jumpsuit in the mail, it did not look like it looked on the ASOS model- on me.  I felt like I was straight up out of a Tommy Bahama catalogue.  But then, I got to the beach and it all felt right.  This awesome floral print jumper from ASOS has pockets and are what summer dream vacays are made of.

John and I are currently at the Homestead celebrating our anniversary, and if it weren’t for the rain, you can bet this post would have been done a few days later. However, with only a few precious weeks left this summer, I felt compelled to hop on my laptop and share some fun jumpsuits for the end of summer days with you! Jumpsuits make life so so easy. No need to put together a full outfit, when you can just throw one on and VOILA! Shop our favorite picks below.

Red Dresses for Summer

One of my favorite things about being a duo is being able to share clothes. This probably isn’t the first time I’ve talked about this on the blog, but there it is! Before I left for Chicago, I went over to Catherine’s and raided her closet.  I borrowed a camo jacket, that I wore everyday (seen in my insta here), and a couple of other pieces.  I couldn’t help but grab this red dress, even though I knew I probably wouldn’t wear it on our trip.  And alas, I didn’t. But I did wear it to play dress up in the back yard before a date night with John! Cath has a real eye for picking out dresses that are going to make a statement and this red dress is no different!  (more…)

Mom Jeans for Any Season

I have had the hardest time finding a pair of mom jeans that not only fit me, but are flattering on me. I swear it is just as hard as finding the perfect shade of blonde for your skin tone! (see my post on where to get your blonde hair done in Richmond on The Crystal Press here.) I have short legs and curves so mom jeans have been a trend I have been TRYING to make happen for cathclaire + the crystal press fam but failing miserably. They either make my legs look stumpy or my hips look too large etc etc. The other day I found a pair from ASOS and I decided to give them jeans a try. My trick for ordering online in a time crunch? Order two clothing sizes that you think you are closest to. I ordered the 27 and 28 in these jeans and ended up going with the 27. Did I mention that I love them?

I know the vintage style mom jeans are traditionally a thick, truer denim but these have a little bit more give in them that I appreciate. You know, a little stretch. These ASOS jeans are more comfortable for me to wear than a truer denim and if I am being completely honest, I’d even wear them on a plane. And I hate wearing jeans on planes. Like, loathe.
