How to Dress Your Slip Dress Down

I got this satin slip dress with a wedding in mind.

While I ended up going with another option – I had to make use of this slip! I don’t have any occasions for this dress on the books so I wanted to incorporate it into my casual attire by dressing it down. I love to wear this shade of yellow and I am a sucker for a wallet friendly dress at Forever 21, but I was having a hard time styling this dress for an everyday occasion around Richmond. Basically, it took me a beat to figure out how I wanted to dress this slip dress down for a casual summer day.

I usually wear this Girl Power shirt (seen partially in this outfit lol) to work out in or when I am going for the athleisure look, but I really like it with this dress. It is the perfect contrast to this satin slip dress and I also like how you can’t see the entire t-shirts slogan. It’s a little secret between me and the Universe. Oh, and you.

Wedding Invitation Style with Minted

I told you guys this was just the beginning of wedding content and the good news is, I wasn’t lying. Kevin (my handsome groom) and I wanted to keep this wedding process as simple yet stylish as possible and were so excited when Minted fit the bill for invitations.  See the wedding photo at the end of this post to get an idea of how excited we were about our Minted invitations.

Black Dresses for Fall

I am pretty sure that multiple times a year, we do a post like this: rounding up our current favorite black dresses.  But the fact is, that we tend to live in our favorite black pieces so these posts are always relevant – well, to us at least. As we head into fall we can start to layer our favorite black shift dresses and/or get creative with some cooler weather friendly options. Whether you like to keep it simple with a basic t-shirt dress or would rather step outside of the box with something funky,  we’ve got plenty of options for you! For this round-up we’ve picked our favorites from ASOS and Need Supply, because we can always count on them as great places for go-to pieces at a range of prices. (more…)

Cathclaire: A Bride’s Take on How to Pick a Videographer

Here comes the influx of wedding content! I am so excited to share this video (and a taste of the photos from the oh-so-talented Kaytee Lauren!) with you guys and while this may be just the beginning, we are starting out with a bang with our wedding video from Altamira Production Co.

In terms of how to pick a videographer, the first thing I have to say is: just do it. I know the budget is a big thing when it comes to weddings because, well, weddings are hella-expensive and I’ve been there, but also – weddings, when you are the bride or groom, are a whirlwind. Everyone I’ve ever talked to (now my newlywed-self included) in regards to their wedding has described the day as flying by and a whirlwind. While they mean this in the best way, I can testify that fact is absolutely true. When Nick from Altamira sent me our wedding video, I can’t explain all the feels we felt reliving such a whirlwind yet beautiful, big day in our lives. The cinematic feel doesn’t hurt either.

She Wears a White ASOS Dress

I love you summer, I really really do. However when it is peak summertime in RVA, the stifling temperatures can make getting dressed a little daunting/sweaty. There is nothing I like more than an effortless t-shirt dress when it is super hot out. I especially love this one from ASOS because of the tie detailing on the shoulders! What did you guys do (and wear) this weekend? I hope everyone stayed cool! Check out pieces from the outfit I’m wearing below:

Cold Shoulder Little Black “Dress”

On any given day, I am likely to experience the short-torso struggle at least once.  From barely being able to see over the steering wheel in my husbands car, to the serious struggle of finding a one-piece that fits, the struggle is real for Reb over here. When I picked out this
“top” in my first Le Tote, I had planned on pairing it with a nice pair of flare jeans, but to my surprise (well, kind of surprise) upon trying it on, it was clearly long enough on me to be a dress.  Sure, its a taaaaad short, but who doesn’t like rocking a baby doll dress every now and again?  (more…)

One Teaspoon Frankie’s + My Favorite Jean Shorts for Summer

one teaspoon frankie jean shorts summer

I, cathclaire, am very proud to present you with my favorite pair of jean shorts for summer and what my husband likes to calls “droopy drawers.” (I should probably be embarrassed to write this on The Crystal Press….?) Needless to say, he isn’t the biggest fan of these One Teaspoon Drop Crotch Frankie shorts, but despite the borderline weird name –  I cannot help wearing them all the time. It’s like they are my soul mate in jean shorts from that make me feel like a BA.*  I love the cut on the sides of each leg, the exaggerated frayed hem, and – if I am being perfectly honest – the drop crotch makes them the most comfortable jean shorts I own.

While I would like to think that I am the only person in the universe who loves these shorts, sadly, they are sold out. (and they went QUICK!) That being said, I have spent some time rounding up some shorts (that are some of my favorites) for you guys that are similar if you want to try out the distressed Bermuda short look this summer!

PS – I found a One Teaspoon white version on Nordstroms rack for uber cheap. Check em out here.

**** badass

I added several styles of stilettos that I think balance out the long shorts perfectly for you guys into the roundup above! Think embellishments + girly details to juxtapose the droopy drawers thing. (more…)

Here we go again, wearing black + white pieces in the middle of the summer! While we have been experimenting with patterns and prints this summer, we also like to stay true to our roots.  We’ve said it again and again, but we just can’t help gravitating toward neutral tones, denim and simplicity.
