October is wine month in Virginia and naturally, we loveeeee visiting vineyards and planning trips to the Charlottesville area to visit our favorites. So, we figured we would share a little photo diary and some tidbits about these places in honor of another beautiful fall in Virginia Wine Country.
Luckily our favorite places have opened back up after lock-down and are all using safety precautions. If you plan on visiting any of these wineries this fall, be sure to check their COVID-19 changes! Most are open again without reservations, but better safe than sorry 🙂
Blenheim Vineyards
If you’ve been following along with us for a while, you have probably heard/seen me talk and post about Blenheim. I have been a wine club member at Dave Matthew’s winery for years and it is one of my most favorite places to visit. Their tasting room is located in a gorgeous building with vaulted ceilings and dark wooden beams. In here (and outside) you can taste their seasonal vintages for $8, and purchase bottles and glasses as well. They recently expanded their outdoor seating area to include a new pavilion and picnic tables, where you can gaze upon the vineyards while enjoy your favorite wine. On weekends, you can find local Charlottesville Food Trucks serving up lunch to round off your tasting experience. If you’re planning to visit Blenheim, definitely do not hesitate to reach out. I’ve got much, much more to tell you!
King Family Vineyards
King Family was the first stop on our winery tour with Lexus Cville a few years ago, so if these photos look familiar, that’s why! Located in Crozet on the Monticello Wine Trail, just a few miles outside of Charlottesville, with two tasting rooms and acres of gorgeous views, it is a Virginia wine lover’s favorite. Their Crose is a true crowd pleaser, and this summer I discovered the Roseland white which was amazing as well! To be honest, I have loved all of the wines I have tasted there over the years. On Sundays, in the summer and into the fall, they host the Roseland polo matches, which free to the public and a welcomed treat when visiting the tasting room!
Pollak Vineyards
Located close to King Family, technically in Greenwood, VA, is Pollak Vineyards. We visited here on our Lexus tour as well and lucked out on a Wednesday in June to have the place to ourselves. Their gorgeous tasting room is inviting, full of light and looks out over a beautiful view of the valley, vines and mountains. They have acres and acres of French grapes that they use to create estate grown wines to honor your favorite French varietals. A tasting here is also $8 and of course, we recommend the rose! I’ve also heard great things about their wine club.
Veritas Vineyards and Winery
Veritas was the third stop on our summer wine tour (yes, we did an outfit change). Last time I was there, it was just before Christmastime, so the experience was completely different. Their tasting room is full of plush leather couches and over the holidays, by the fire, I enjoyed some delicious red wines. This time, however, we were able to enjoy the beautiful outdoor patio post-tasting and it was the perfect end to our tour! The views of the valley and the mountains from Veritas really can’t be beat. After all of the white and rose we had tasted throughout the day, I opted for a glass of red, while Cath stuck with the day’s theme and enjoyed a glass of rose. On their website, I read their philosophy which states “We believe that the truth in our wine comes straight from our vineyard as an expression of the land where we live and work” — and I think that they have achieved that to the max.
Valley Road Vineyards
Catherine visited Valley Road Vineyards last summer on a trip with her husbands family and I was incredibly jealous! I have had this one on my list for a while now and just have not made it quiteeeeee that far. It’s along the Nelson 151 trail and if you are venturing into the mountains it is a perfect pit stop to make! Cath had nothing but great things to say about her experience there and hopefully one of these days I will make it out there.
Early Mountain Vineyards
Last, but certainly not least is Early Mountain, which has quickly become one of my favorites. John and I have visited twice during our trips to Getaway House and it gets better each time! They have indoor and outdoor dining available by reservation and a full menu available at some tables. Their award-winning rose is a favorite, as is their easy drinking Soif and to be honest, you can’t go wrong with any of their wines! Highly recommend making the trip out to EMV this fall.

I pride myself on having been to tons of Cville wineries, but there’s a few on this list that are new to me. I’ll have to check them out soon. I’m going to Barboursville this weekend and I can’t wait. It’s been too long since I’ve enjoyed a winery!
